Mercedes-AMG GT SUV debuts as a 1,153 hp electric SUV

Mercedes-AMG revealed the electric GT SUV on October 17, 2026: up to 1,153 hp, a 128 kWh battery and 710 kW charging that fills 10-80% in 12 minutes.

Mercedes-AMG revealed the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, an all-electric performance SUV, in Stuttgart on October 17, 2026. The top GT 63 version makes up to 1,153 horsepower and can charge at up to 710 kilowatts. Those charging figures matter more than the horsepower, because few chargers can deliver them yet.

The car made its world premiere at "The 140 Festival" by the Mercedes-Benz Museum, a celebration of the brand's 140th year. Around 20,000 guests attended, according to Mercedes-Benz. It is AMG's first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house.

Three versions, one platform

The SUV is the second model on AMG.EA, AMG's own platform for electric cars, the Mercedes-Benz USA press release says. All three versions use an 800-volt electrical system and all-wheel drive. Mercedes calls the figures below estimates or preliminary.

An axial-flux motor is a flat, disc-shaped electric motor. Auto Express reports that the motors come from Yasa, a British firm. WLTP is the European test used to rate a car's driving range.

"SUV by shape. GT by nature," said Stefan Weckbach, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, in the release.

The charging numbers

Peak output is a short burst. The continuous figure, 711 hp on the two top models, is what the car can hold for longer, and Mercedes publishes both.

Charging is where the SUV is most unusual. At full speed, the GT 63 and GT 55 go from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, and the GT 53 in 11 minutes. Ten minutes on a fast charger adds up to 454 km of WLTP range on the top two models and 440 km on the GT 53, the release says.

That speed needs a charger that can deliver it. On a 400 kW station, 10-80% takes 16 minutes for the two top models and 14 minutes for the GT 53. No charger in the UK currently supports 710 kW, Auto Express notes.

Price and timing

Mercedes has not published prices. Auto Express puts the GT 53 at around £110,000 in the UK and says the car goes on sale in Europe from October 20. The GT 55 and GT 63 are not due before early 2027, it adds. US dealers get the car in summer 2027, according to the release.

Production takes place in Sindelfingen, Germany. Some early reports gave specs that differ from the release, so the official figures above are the ones to use.

What this means for developers

  • Charging maps now set the real range. The GT 63's 12-minute stop needs a 710 kW charger. Fleet managers and buyers should check which chargers on their routes go above 400 kW before counting on the headline time.
  • Read estimates as estimates. Mercedes labels its acceleration, range and charging figures preliminary. Wait for final data before building a cost model around them.
  • Watch the high-power charger rollout. Cars that charge at 600 kW and 710 kW give charging networks a reason to install faster hardware. Teams that build charging apps or route planners should plan for stations above 400 kW.
  • Compare continuous power, not peak. The 1,153 hp figure is a burst. The 711 hp continuous output is the better guide to repeated hard use.
  • Compare like with like. The GT 53 uses two synchronous motors instead of three axial-flux units and a smaller 106 kWh battery. Its charging, range and speed figures differ from the two top models, so check which version a review or quote refers to.
