GPT-6 reaches free ChatGPT users, Schneider buys PTC for $22.6B, GitHub stacks pull requests, and Margaret Hamilton dies at 90

AI shifted for everyday users this week: ChatGPT's free tier moved to GPT-6, while Gemini's free tier dropped to its smallest model. Python 3.15.0 also shipped, with lazy imports and a built-in frozendict. Beyond AI, a $22.6 billion software deal, a GPU cloud raising up to $4 billion, new Surface hardware and the death of the woman credited with naming software engineering filled out all six desks.
