Google announced the Fitbit Edge, a $179.99 fitness tracker with a color screen, on October 12, 2026. It is available to pre-order now and reaches stores on October 27. TechCrunch calls it Google's middle ground between the screenless Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch. It puts a display, GPS and an ECG app on a slim band.
Where the Fitbit Edge fits
According to TechCrunch, the Edge combines the Fitbit Air's slim band with an OLED display. Droid Life places it between the screen-free Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5. Google launched the Pixel Watch 5 in August, alongside the Pixel 11 phones.
The base model costs $179.99. A Stephen Curry Special Edition costs $219.99. Engadget says it adds a basketball-themed clock face, a Rye color and a water-repellent band that wicks moisture.
Droid Life says pre-orders opened the same day at the Google Store, Best Buy and Amazon. None of the three reports names the countries where it will sell.

TechCrunch says the GPS is 40% more accurate than the previous generation. Sleep stage detection is 15% more accurate, by the same account. TechCrunch lists four colors: Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon.
Health features and the AI coach
The Edge tracks heart rate around the clock and alerts the wearer when it runs unusually high or low. It also has an ECG app, which records the heart's electrical rhythm. Droid Life adds blood oxygen and nightly skin temperature sensors, plus a morning recovery score based on heart rate variability.
It also gets Health Guardian, which Google announced with the Pixel Watch 5 in August, according to TechCrunch. The feature watches blood pressure and insulin resistance trends. TechCrunch says it is "designed to spot notable changes in health measurements over time."
The tracker recognizes up to 100 activities automatically and has more than 50 exercise modes. On the screen, Droid Life lists Google Maps turn-by-turn directions, quick replies to messages and music controls.
Google Health Coach, an assistant powered by Google's Gemini AI, needs a Google Health Premium subscription. Engadget and Droid Life say each purchase includes three months of Premium.
The replaceable battery
Engadget's headline says the Edge has a replaceable battery, meant to make the device last longer. Engadget does not explain how a battery is swapped. Neither TechCrunch nor Droid Life mentions it.
What this means for developers
For people who buy, build for or manage wearables, the Edge changes a few practical things:
- Budget for the subscription. The AI coach needs Google Health Premium. Three months come in the box, but none of the reports gives the price after that.
- Mixed phone fleets can use it. It pairs with the Google Health app on both Android and iOS, per Droid Life. A team with both kinds of phone can standardize on one tracker.
- Treat Health Guardian as a trend tool. It is described as a way to spot changes over time. Readings are a prompt to talk to a doctor, not a diagnosis.
- Wait for repair details. The replaceable battery appears in one report only. Check Google's support pages for how the swap works before counting on it for a longer life.
- Check your region first. Pre-orders are open, but no report lists the countries where the Edge will be sold.
