AMD FSR 4.1 now runs on Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards
AMD's Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver brings FSR 4.1 upscaling to Radeon RX 6000 cards from 2020, months early, plus Ryzen handhelds. Xbox Series X|S comes later.

AMD released its Adrenalin Edition 26.10.1 driver on October 20, 2026, bringing FSR 4.1 upscaling to Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards that first shipped in 2020. The same release covers several Ryzen laptop and handheld chips, and AMD says Xbox Series X|S support is coming soon. For owners of older cards, it means better image quality in games without buying new hardware.
What FSR 4.1 does
FSR, short for FidelityFX Super Resolution, is AMD's upscaler. A game draws each frame at a lower resolution, then FSR scales it up to the screen's full size. That raises frame rates while trying to keep the picture sharp.
Since version 4, FSR uses a machine-learning model to rebuild detail. AMD's announcement claims a "significant leap in image quality" over FSR 3.1, the older version RX 6000 cards had until now. It gives no measured figures for that claim.
Which hardware gets it
The AMD announcement lists every device in this rollout.
| Hardware | FSR 4.1 status |
|---|---|
| Radeon RX 9000 series | FSR 4 since its 2025 launch |
| Radeon RX 7000 series | FSR 4.1 since July 2026 |
| Radeon RX 6000 series | New in Adrenalin 26.10.1 |
| Ryzen AI Max chips | New, in systems such as the ROG Flow Z13 |
| Ryzen AI 9 laptops | New, with a separate, more efficient version |
| Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2 A handhelds | New, with the more efficient version |
| Xbox Series X and Series S | "Coming soon," no date given |
DealNTech, citing PC Games Hardware, says support spans every RX 6000 model from the RX 6400 to the RX 6950 XT. AMD notes that handheld availability may depend on each device maker's drivers.
How AMD fit it onto older cards
The newest Radeon RX 9000 cards run FSR 4 on dedicated FP8 matrix units, hardware built for AI math. RX 6000 cards have no such units. So AMD tuned an INT8 version of the model, first made for the RX 7000 series, to run on the cards' regular shader cores. INT8 uses smaller whole numbers, which older chips can process quickly.
That arrives months ahead of schedule. AMD had earlier targeted early 2027 for RX 6000 support, according to DealNTech.
The trade-off is speed. Running the model on shader cores costs some frames. DealNTech cites a Tom's Hardware test that measured roughly a 13% cost in Cyberpunk 2077 on an RX 6900 XT, at 4K with FSR's Balanced setting. That is one game on one card, not a full benchmark.
What else is in the driver
RX 6000 owners get only the upscaler. Machine-learning frame generation and Ray Regeneration stay exclusive to the RX 9000 series, DealNTech reports. AMD also announced FSR 4 support for Vulkan, the cross-platform graphics interface, and smoother frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation.
The driver itself is an optional release, Elite Gamers notes. It adds FSR support for three games: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Final Fantasy Resonance. It also fixes stuttering in Modern Warfare 4 on RX 6000 and newer cards. DealNTech says it runs on Windows 11 and 64-bit Windows 10 version 21H2 or later.
Known issues remain. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced may crash on some RX 7000 cards. Death Stranding 2 can hang with FSR on RX 9000 cards, and turning FSR off avoids it. AMD advises RX 5000 owners who play War Thunder to stay on driver 26.9.1.
What this means for developers
For PC players and game studios, the audience for FSR 4 just grew by a generation of cards.
- Players: test before you switch. On an RX 6000 card, compare FSR 4.1 with FSR 3.1 in your own games. Expect a sharper image but fewer frames; one test measured about 13% fewer.
- Studios: plan for more FSR 4 users. A game that only exposes FSR 3.1 now leaves RX 6000, laptop and handheld players behind. Check that your FSR 4 path works on these devices.
- Test the efficient model on handhelds. Ryzen AI 9 and Z2 chips use a separate, more efficient version. Image quality may differ from a desktop card, so test on real hardware.
- Do not promise Xbox dates. AMD has given no release date for Xbox Series X|S. Console players should treat it as future work, not a feature to plan around.
