Meta's Muse adds computer control and a GitHub connector

Meta added full computer control on Mac and a batch of new app connectors, including GitHub, to its Muse AI agent. The company announced the update at its Meta Connect keynote in Menlo Park on September 23, 2026, TechCrunch reported. For developers, it is the clearest sign yet that Muse is meant to act inside the tools you already use, not just answer questions in a chat window.

"Computer use is now available with Muse for Mac," Meta wrote in its own announcement. The agent can now "drive any app on your Mac," Meta said.

Computer use is the biggest jump on that list. Muse's Mac app already had file, mail, calendar, and notes access with per-app permission since its September 18 launch. Full computer use lets it act on any application's interface, not just the ones it has a built-in connector for.

The developer angle: connectors

Meta also opened Muse to outside services. TechCrunch reports that Meta received more than 1,500 developer applications to build custom Muse connectors in under a week. Meta's own announcement lists new partners including GitHub, Notion, Granola, and Box, alongside retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, and Wayfair, and payment services Shop Pay and PayPal.

A GitHub connector means Muse can reach into a developer's code-hosting account the same way it already reaches Mail and Calendar on the Mac. That is a new category of access for the agent's connector list, and it is worth the same caution as the file access Muse already has.

How Meta plans to make money

Muse stays free, with a large number of tokens included, according to TechCrunch's account of the keynote. Mark Zuckerberg said Meta is "making Muse free for a huge number of tokens." He added that Meta expects to profit later by charging a small fee on transactions, TechCrunch reports. Zuckerberg called Muse "the centerpiece of our vision for what we're building."

What this means for developers

Before connecting Muse to GitHub or any other developer tool, check exactly what access the connector asks for. Does it request read-only access to one repository, or full read and write across your account? Meta's Mac release gave Muse per-app permission and an audit trail for files, mail, and calendar. There is no public detail yet on whether a GitHub connector follows that same model, so do not assume it does.

The jump from file access to full computer use raises the stakes of an earlier finding. A researcher got Muse's own runtime to export 6.8 GB of internal data, including SSH keys. An agent that can drive any Mac application, and now reach a developer's GitHub account too, is a bigger target. If its sandbox is ever tricked into leaking what it can see, more is now at stake. Review the audit log Meta provides before granting Muse a new connector, and start with the narrowest access that still gets the job done.
