Apple's first foldable iPhone sold out within minutes of pre-orders opening on October 16, 2026. US delivery estimates for every iPhone Duo model jumped from late October to January 25, 2027, about half an hour after orders began, Macworld reports. For anyone who did not order in the first minutes, the $1,999 phone is now a next-year purchase.
Pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. Pacific time on apple.com and in the Apple Store app, according to Apple's newsroom. The phone launches on October 23, Macworld and MacRumors report.
How fast the dates slipped
Macworld followed the store's estimates through the morning, in US Eastern time:
| Time (ET) | What Macworld saw |
|---|---|
| 8:00 am | Pre-orders open |
| 8:07 am | Apple's pre-order page opens |
| First hour | Some early buyers get October 23 delivery |
| 8:21 am | Estimates of December 15 to 22 for all models |
| About half an hour in | January 25, 2027 for every color, capacity and carrier |
MacRumors also saw January 25 on Apple's US store for all models. MacDailyNews cited Bloomberg's Mark Gurman for the slip into January. Orders placed by the time of its 10:58 a.m. post showed Friday, January 29, 2027, MacDailyNews said. Estimates also varied by seller earlier in the day. Macworld saw late October through T-Mobile and November through AT&T and Verizon.
Abroad, Macworld saw December 14 to 21 in the UK for a white 256GB model. Germany showed mid-December.
Prices and resales
| Storage | US price |
|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,999 |
| 512GB | $2,199 |
| 1TB | $2,599 |
| 2TB | $3,199 |
Resellers moved quickly. A 2TB model in Night Sky sold on eBay for $5,000, MacRumors reports, citing Vadim Yuryev of the Max Tech YouTube channel. That is $1,800 over Apple's price. A "confirmed pre-order" for a 1TB model sold for $4,400, also $1,800 above list. Macworld separately saw a 1TB unit resell for $3,777.77.
Why supply is tight
Apple has not commented on supply or production volumes, MacDailyNews notes. Its newsroom post only advised buyers to trade in old phones "ahead of the availability-day rush." Apple's waiting page told shoppers that "demand will be high," Macworld reports.
Production limits have been reported for weeks. In September, MacRumors reported that final assembly yields were only slightly above 60%. That figure came from China's Jiemian News, citing a person close to Foxconn's supply chain. Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9 and later detailed a $19 replaceable cover layer for its folding screen.
What this means for developers
- Do not wait for a test device. Most buyers who ordered after the first half hour will not get a phone until late January. Xcode 27.1 already opened the App Store to iPhone Duo apps, so start layout work with the tools you have.
- Plan for a small early audience. Apple's iPhone Duo user base will grow slowly through the winter. Weigh how much foldable-specific work to ship before early 2027.
- IT teams should reset expectations. Executives who want the device will wait months for it. Budget any approved purchases for the first quarter of 2027.
- Avoid resale listings. Paying $1,800 over list on eBay buys a "confirmed pre-order," not a phone in hand. Apple and carriers publish the real dates.
- Watch for in-store stock on October 23. The early slip suggests launch-day supply is small. Check Apple's store pages before assuming an order date holds.
