Apple released iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026. The update lets Siri AI remember past conversations, adds a setting that keeps chosen apps away from Siri and Search, and fixes 163 security vulnerabilities, according to TidBITS. It is the first major update to iOS 27, and it also switches on the new App Tracking Transparency prompt for apps in the European Union.
The update runs on every iPhone that supports iOS 27, from the iPhone 11 onward. Siri AI itself needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 or later.
What changes in Siri AI
The headline feature is memory. Apple's release notes, quoted by MacRumors, say "Siri AI can recall your past conversations." That means you can ask Siri about something it told you earlier.
Siri AI can also draw on more of your personal data:
- photos attached in Messages,
- attendees of Calendar events,
- voicemails,
- Safari history and Reading List.
You can now select part of a Siri answer instead of copying all of it. Siri AI also adds five languages: French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple's notes say Siri AI is not available in the EU or mainland China. China is due to follow in iOS 27.3, as we reported earlier this month.
TidBITS notes that the memory feature also reaches iPadOS, macOS and watchOS, but not visionOS.
The new Excluded Apps setting
A new Excluded Apps setting lets you choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can see. If you do not want Siri reading from a given app, you can now switch it off for that app alone.
This matters because Siri AI now pulls from more sources than before. The setting is the user's way to limit that reach.
Security fixes and other versions
Apple shipped updates across its platforms on the same day. TidBITS lists the number of vulnerabilities each one fixes:
| Release | Vulnerabilities fixed |
|---|---|
| iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 | 163 |
| iOS 26.7.2 and iPadOS 26.7.2 | 134 |
| iOS 18.7.11 and iPadOS 18.7.11 | 3, including one zero-day |
| macOS Golden Gate 27.2 | 263 |
| watchOS 27.2 | 62 |
| visionOS 27.2 | 125 |
| Safari 27.2 | 33 |
A zero-day is a flaw that attackers were able to exploit before a fix existed. iOS 26.7.2 is for people who stay on iOS 26.
OS X Daily reports build 24B119 for most devices and 24B91020 for the iPhone Duo. Apple skipped version 27.1 for regular iPhones, because, TidBITS says, that number was reserved for the iPhone Duo launch.
What changes for EU apps
MacRumors confirms that iOS 27.2 brings the alternative App Tracking Transparency prompt to the EU. App Tracking Transparency is the system screen an app must show before it tracks you across other companies' apps and websites. We covered the new EU prompt when Apple announced it in September. With this release, it reaches every EU user who installs the update.
On the tools side, Apple's developer releases page lists no new Xcode on October 26. The latest build there is Xcode 27.2 RC (27B48), dated October 19.
What this means for developers
iOS 27.2 changes what users can block and what EU users see. Plan for both now rather than after support tickets arrive.
- Watch your EU tracking opt-in rates. The new prompt is live. Compare consent rates before and after users update, country by country.
- Do not assume Siri can see your app. Excluded Apps lets users cut off Siri, Search and suggestions per app. Test that your app still works well when it is excluded.
- Localize for the new languages. Siri AI now speaks French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Check any Siri phrases and shortcuts your app offers in those languages.
- Patch your test fleet. With 163 fixes in iOS 27.2 and a zero-day fixed in iOS 18.7.11, push managed devices to the latest version for their model.
- Keep testing on iOS 26. Apple still ships fixes for it, so a share of your users will stay there.
The next update, iOS 27.3, is expected in mid-December, according to TidBITS.
