Deezer will let listeners hide AI-generated music from search
Deezer will add a toggle that hides fully AI-generated tracks, albums and artists from search. It now receives nearly 90,000 AI tracks a day.

By the numbers
- fully AI-generated tracks Deezer receives each day
- ~90,000
- AI tracks detected and kept out of recommendations since January 2025
- 42M+
- share of streams that go to fully AI-generated music
- 1-3%
- of those streams were fraudulent in 2025, per Deezer
- Up to 85%
Deezer, the French music streaming service, will add a setting that lets listeners hide fully AI-generated music. With the toggle on, AI-generated tracks, albums and their related artists drop out of search results. The company announced it on October 13, 2026, and says it will arrive worldwide before the end of the year. It puts the choice to opt out of AI music in the listener's hands.
What the toggle does
The setting is a simple on or off switch, according to Deezer's announcement. When it is on, fully AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists no longer appear when a user searches. Users can switch it off at any time to see them again.
The toggle covers search. Deezer already keeps fully AI-generated tracks out of its algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, Music Business Worldwide reports.
It targets music made entirely with generative AI. Deezer says tracks that use limited AI help within a human creative process are treated differently. None of the reports say whether the toggle will be on or off by default.
"We've seen a clear user demand for the ability to filter out AI-generated music," said Alexis Lanternier, Deezer's chief executive.
How much AI music Deezer sees
Deezer has been tracking AI uploads since it launched a detection tool in January 2025. The numbers have climbed fast:
| Measure | Figure |
|---|---|
| Fully AI-generated tracks received per day | Nearly 90,000 |
| AI share of new music delivered on peak days | More than 50% |
| AI tracks detected and removed from recommendations, January 2025 to August 2026 | More than 42 million |
| Albums tagged as containing AI content since June 2025 | More than 14 million |
| Share of streams going to fully AI-generated music | 1% to 3% |
| Share of those streams that were fraudulent in 2025 | Up to 85% |
When Deezer launched its detection tool, it was receiving about 10,000 AI tracks a day, Music Business Worldwide reports.
Fraud is a big part of the problem. "It's evident that the primary purpose of uploading these tracks to streaming platforms is fraudulent," Deezer said, according to Music Business Worldwide. Deezer says it excludes manipulated streams from royalty payments.
Why listeners asked for it
The toggle follows a survey Deezer ran with the research firm Ipsos in November 2025. It covered 9,000 people in eight countries.
- 45% said they would like to filter out music made entirely by AI.
- 97% could not tell fully AI-generated music from human-made music in a blind test.
- 80% agreed that fully AI-generated music should be clearly labeled.
How other services compare
Streaming services have taken different approaches, according to TechCrunch and Music Business Worldwide:
- Bandcamp has banned AI-generated tracks entirely.
- Tidal tags fully AI-generated music and stops paying royalties on it.
- Spotify labels AI-generated artist profiles and keeps them out of recommendations by default.
- Apple Music has started tagging AI tracks based on what labels and distributors declare.
Deezer's approach differs because the listener decides, Music Business Worldwide notes. Spotify's exclusion from recommendations is automatic.
What this means for developers
For people who build music, media or recommendation products:
- Detection is becoming a product feature. Deezer turned its AI detection into a setting users control. Platforms that host user uploads should expect listeners to ask for the same choice.
- Labels need a clear definition. Deezer separates fully AI-generated music from AI-assisted work. Any filter needs a rule for that line, and users will test it.
- Fraud and AI content overlap. Up to 85% of streams on fully AI tracks were fraudulent, Deezer says. Teams fighting payment fraud should look at AI-generated uploads as a signal.
- Search and recommendations are separate controls. Deezer already kept AI tracks out of recommendations, but listeners still found them in search. Filters need to cover every place content appears.
