**By the numbers:**

- $130M - Series D, led by Sapphire Ventures
- 2,000+ - facilities using Tractian's system
- 700+ - employees across four countries

**Tractian valuation by round:**

- Series C, Dec 2024: 720M
- Series D, Oct 2026: 1400M

Tractian, an Atlanta company that sells sensors and AI to predict when factory machines will break, has raised a $130 million Series D at a $1.4 billion valuation. Sapphire Ventures led the round, announced on October 22, 2026, with M&G's Catalyst as co-lead. The size of the round shows investors now pay unicorn prices for AI that watches physical equipment, not only software.

Other investors include Next47, General Catalyst, Bosch Ventures, 53 Stations, Monashees, Endeavor Catalyst, Norte Ventures and Y Combinator, according to [Tractian's announcement](https://tractian.com/en/blog/tractian-raises-series-d-to-scale-physical-ai).

## What Tractian sells

Tractian clips wireless sensors onto industrial machines such as motors, pumps, compressors and conveyor belts. The sensors measure vibration, ultrasound, temperature and electrical signals, [Technologies.org](https://technologies.org/tractian-raises-130-million-series-d-at-1-4-billion-valuation-for-ai-that-predicts-machine-failures/) reports. A worn bearing or a loose part changes those signals before the machine fails.

Tractian's software combines the signals into one view of each machine's health. An AI agent, trained on what the company calls "one of the largest industrial failure datasets," then names the likely cause and suggests a fix. The company calls the whole approach "physical AI."

The system can open a repair ticket, called a work order, in Tractian's own software. It also connects to tools factories already run, such as SAP, IBM Maximo and Oracle NetSuite.

## Customers and growth

More than 2,000 facilities use the product, according to the company. Named customers include Eli Lilly, McKesson, Whirlpool, Coca-Cola bottling plants, Cummins and Embraer. Tractian says it also serves data center and government customers it does not name.

The company has more than 700 employees. It is based in Atlanta, with offices in Monterrey, São Paulo and Poland. Technologies.org says it was founded in Brazil in 2019.

The valuation has roughly doubled since the last round. Technologies.org reports that Sapphire also led a $120 million Series C in December 2024, at a $720 million valuation. Citing The Information, it adds that annual recurring revenue passed $100 million in September. Tractian's own announcement gives neither figure.

## Why investors are paying up

Tractian's pitch rests on the cost of broken machines. Its announcement cites a Siemens study from January 2026. Unplanned downtime costs the world's 500 largest industrial companies about 11% of their yearly revenue, or about $1.4 trillion a year. The same release says factory equipment has been in service for 24 years on average.

Anders Ranum, the Sapphire partner on the deal, tied the bet to the AI boom. "The AI boom is driving a massive build-out of physical infrastructure," he said. According to [Pulse 2.0](https://pulse2.com/tractian-raises-130-million-series-d-at-1-4-billion-valuation-to-scale-physical-ai-platform/), he added that "the companies building and running it can't afford equipment failures."

Chief executive Igor Marinelli framed the goal as closing "the alert-to-action gap" to "eliminate unplanned downtime and lost revenue," Pulse 2.0 reports. "I grew up watching my father work as a maintenance technician at a paper mill," he said.

Tractian has rivals. Technologies.org names Augury as its closest competitor in AI machine health. Industrial giants Siemens, ABB, Emerson and Honeywell also sell condition monitoring.

It is the second "physical AI" startup to reach a billion-dollar valuation this week. Tech AI Wire covered [Eka Robotics' $150 million round](/articles/eka-robotics-150-million-series-a-1-45-billion-a16z-f-prime/) on October 23.

## What this means for developers

For teams that run plants, warehouses or data centers, the question is cost against downtime. Ask any vendor in this market for results from a site like yours: failures caught early, false alarms per month and the hours of downtime avoided.

Check the integration path before a pilot. Tractian's value depends on alerts turning into work orders inside the system your maintenance team already uses. Confirm the connector to SAP, Maximo or NetSuite works with your version and your approval steps.

Data center operators are a named target market. If you run cooling pumps, chillers or backup generators, sensor-based monitoring is now a funded, competitive category. Expect sales calls, and expect Augury and the industrial giants to compete with Tractian on price.

Watch how much decision-making Tractian hands to its AI agent. Today it diagnoses and recommends. Ask who approves the fix, and keep a person in that step for safety-critical equipment.
